SINGLES ADVISORY COMMITTEE NEWS:

A group of 13 volunteers; GOCC Singles, and their sponsors from the church staff and leadership meet as the Singles Advisory Committee to prayerfully review past activities and set plans for future events for the Singles at GOCC. The group also considers ways of reaching out to Singles in the park and the surrounding community who are not current church members as an encouragement to experience the fellowship of believers in Jesus Christ who are in similar single circumstances. The next Singles Advisor Board Meeting is scheduled to be held on Mon., May 22, 9:30 AM.

Review of recent events:

April 23, 2017 - The GOCC Singles enjoyed a river cruise on the Banana River aboard the Blue Dolphin. We cruised through the Canaveral locks and around the channels where all the cruise ships depart on Sunday afternoon. The cruise was followed with dinner at the FishLips restaurant. Betty Pitts is to be commended for the outstanding job she did coordinating this very successful event. There were too many positive comments to record here – all enjoyed. There were complaints about the noise and the music at Fish Lips restaurant.

March 2, 2017 - The GOCC Singles attended the Strawberry festival in Plant City and saw a special performance by the Platters, the Drifters and the Coasters.

Feb. 24, 2017 - The GOCC Singles enjoyed an outing to Zarrella’s Italian Restaurant in Cape Canaveral for an old fashion Italian family style lunch.

Dec. 6, 2016 - The Singles Christmas Party was a special dinner and concert in the Church Fellowship Hall. The concert featured vocalist Steve Greer with a special appearance from Elvis!

Nov. 15, 2016 - The GOCC Singles traveled to Mount Dora a charming 100-plus year old historic village in the heart of Central Florida on the shores of beautiful Lake Dora in the Harris Chain of Lakes.

Sep. 16, 2016 - The GOCC Singles group traveled to the Winter Park Playhouse. There was a deluxe luncheon before the performance of “All Hands On Deck” at the famous Dexter’s of Winter Park restaurant. “All Hands On Deck” is a 1942 roadshow and radio broadcast reproduction filled with the songs, dances and laughs that America has loved for over 70 years.

May 20, 2016 - The GOCC Singles group had dinner together at Shiloh’s Steak & Seafood restaurant - one of Titusville’s finest restaurants.

Discussion of future events:

  • Thursday May 25, 2017 - Hollerback German Restaurant in Sanford: Willow Tree Café owned by Hollerback in downtown Sanford. Bus will depart at 5 PM, family style dinner at 6 PM. Cost is $25 [our cost is $20]and we have 18 signed up, to date with payments still coming in. We will leave the restaurant at 7:30 PM, returning to the church at approximately 8:30 PM.
  • Winter Park Playhouse – “Some Enchanted Evening, The Songs of Rodgers & Hammerstein” July 29 – Aug. 20; “Life Could Be a Dream (A 60’s, doo-wop review)” Sep. 15 – Oct. 8. Elaine suggested we look at Four Rivers BBQ Restaurant.
  • Trip to Wycliffe in Orlando – Bob Bates briefed on the options available in this guided tour he could do for us some Wednesday in November. The trip would include “Entermission” devotions from 9 – 10 AM, a bus tour of the campus East of Orlando, a visit to the “Word Spring,” hands on Museum and a lunch in the café. We will open this up to the entire congregation; couples too.
  • Blue Heron dinner with buffet for June or July and get Trey Boyer as speaker.
  • River Tubing –The venue is Rainbow River, a 2-hour drive from TGO. The float trip is 2 hours and includes their bus to the starting point, floating on innertubes back to the point of origin. Cost is minimal and does not require a minimum number of participants. We would have to leave the church NLT 8 AM to meet the schedule. This activity has been tabled until such a time as it can be determined there is an interest.
  • A variety of locations for Luncheons & Dinners out are being discussed.
  • Solomon’s Castle attraction in Ona, FL has been discussed.
  • Shakespeare Theater is a possibility; one of their lighter productions, not the classic Shakespearean productions. Also, Mad Cow theater in Orlando, Titusville Playhouse, Cocoa Playhouse & The King Center.
COMMUNITY FEEDBACK - We need ideas and comments from Singles to help us plan for a better and better Singles group at GOCC.
