Advisory Board Meeting Minutes

Singles Advisory Committee Minutes

Tuesday, August 29, 2023 Meeting

Shirley Kump gave the opening prayer at 2:00 PM.

Those in attendance (in no specific order):  Joyce, Cam, Sammye, JB, Shirley, Donna, Pam and Wayne.

Introductions were made by committee members for Wayne and Pam.  JB announced Wayne and Pam will be sponsors for the Singulars and members of the committee going forward.  Both Wayne and Pam gave very positive remarks regarding their first outing with the Singulars on August 24th to the N. Brevard Historical Museum & the Pier 220 restaurant.

The evaluation of the N.Brevard Historical Museum on August 24th was very positive.

JB read a letter we received from the Museum thanking us for our attendance and donation.  JB provided a card for the committee to sign that will be sent to the Museum.

The evaluation of Pier 220 was mixed. Negative comments dealt with the wait time and the confusion with some of the bills at the restaurant. Discussion on pro’s and con’s of taking larger groups to luncheons.  Suggestions made for resolving issues for future luncheons discussed.

JB announced signup for the September 21st luncheon at Kelsey’s will begin Sunday, September 3rd after service.  Decision was made to go to the Kelsey’s in Port St. John.  Car pool from church at 11:00 AM.  Pam will do the flier, church bulletin, Happenings and signup sheet, and will forward to JB for review.

Committee decided to skip Ft. Christmas event in October.  We can revisit at later time. No event in October since we have two in November.

Winter Park Playhouse’s “A Swinging Christmas – Tony Bennett Holiday Music” event will be on November 9, 2023 at 7:30 PM.  We are limited to 18 tickets.  Bus or van transport.

“Welcome Home” pot luck is schedule for Sunday, November 12th.  Suggestion was made to have volunteers serve the food  instead of attendees serving themselves.  This might prevent running out of food for attendees.  Also, suggested we announce the Pot Luck far enough in advance for people to prepare or purchase food choices.

Possible choices for future events were discussed.  Committee will make suggestions for January, February and March in future meeting(s).

Pam presented an idea of creating a photo album from past event photos.  Committee was in favor of idea, and Pam will provide proposed format in next committee meeting.

JB gave the closing prayer.

Next meeting:  Tuesday, September 26, 2023 at 2:00 PM in the church office.

Singles Advisory Committee Minutes

Monday, August 14, 2017 Meeting

·         J.B. gave the Opening prayer.
·         Advisory committee members who attended include: Betty Pitts, Cam Pelitier, Clareice Lewis, Elaine Stewart, J. B. Kump, and Bill Reynolds.
·         Lisa Schuler of Fabulous tours spoke to the committee about her local tour agency who does tours from groups in the Titusville area. Her company plans tours for teachers, housewives, etc. Most of her tours look too expensive for us. But she does go to some interesting places.
·         Review of minutes from last meeting - no changes were made.
·         Review of the last event, Some Enchanted Evening @ Winter Park Playhouse and the restaurant, Carmel Kitchen: Everyone agreed it was a great success. There were some individual concerns with food (“steak was too tough,” and “no lobster in my lobster bisque”) but the consensus was we should return to Carmel Kitchen sometime.
·         Discussion of future events:
o   Wed., August 23 – It was decided to visit the Harry T Moore museum in Mims at 5 PM on Wednesday, August 23, followed by dinner at Goodrich Seafood Restaurant at 6:30 PM (we have reservations for inside seating for 15 – 20) in Oak Hill. The bus from 1st Baptist in Mims is not available.
o   September – Betty Vignali has suggested to several of us that the Singles Group should attend the “Boots & Bandits” fundraiser for the Woman’s Center of North Brevard. It is scheduled for Saturday, Sep. 30 at 6 PM at Shuler’s 422 Julia St., Titusville. It is a costume event: Western Dress is suggested. Ticket cost is $25. Billy Specht is going to be one of the “prisoners.” We will see if a bus can be arranged.
o   October – Several potential events were discussed and it was determined we would try to schedule Admiral Wayne Justice, one of the Port Canaveral Commissioners as a speaker (he was the Military Aide to Presidents Clinton and G.H.W. Bush) in the tower at the Port, with a tour of the Port and a meal at one of the restaurants there.  If arranged, we would open this up to the whole church.
o   Trip to Wycliffe in Orlando – Bob Bates briefed on the options available in this guided tour he could do for us some Wednesday in November. The trip would include “Entermission” devotions from 9 – 10 AM, a bus tour of the campus East of Orlando, a visit to the “Word Spring,” hands on Museum and a lunch in the café. We will open this up to the entire congregation; couples too.
o   Betty Pitts gave a report on two riverboat trips the Singles might take in the future: The Cocoa Beach boat offers a $55 luncheon cruise and the Sanford ship has a 3-hour luncheon cruise for $51.78 for 20 or more people.
o   We want to try to plan a trip to a performance of the Singing Christmas Tree in Orlando – open it up for the entire church too. Also, it has been suggested (and Bill will research) attendance at one of the plays at the Titusville Playhouse.
·         A closing prayer was offered.
·         NOTE: The next Singles Advisor Board Meeting is scheduled to be held on Mon., Sep. 11, 9:30 AM.

Singles Advisory Committee Minutes

Monday, July 10, 2017 Meeting

  • Shirley Kump gave the opening prayer.
  • Those in attendance: Betty Pitts, Cam Pelitier, J. B. Kump, Shirley Kump, Bill Reynolds & Gail Smith (observer & potential board member).
  • The minutes from last meeting were reviewed, with no changes.
  • The last event; dinner at the Blue Heron with Trey Boyer as speaker was reviewed – Cam suggested there were some people who would have preferred to have ordered off the menu instead of having the 3 limited choices we were given. In fact, one woman did order off the menu and paid an upcharge. J.B. said it is a trade-off to set up an efficient meal with a limited schedule and budget.
  • A general review of the Singles Group was done and the thought was that we are meeting a real need in the church and that we are involving people who do not necessarily get involved in other functions. Too, the group has given people an opportunity to form new friendships and experience social interactions in a Christian context they would not have otherwise had an opportunity to have. There was some discussion of allowing moderate use of alcohol at some of our meal functions in restaurants – J.B. explained it was standing church policy that no alcohol be consumed in official church functions but that he would submit it to the board for their consideration.
  • Future events:
    • The Winter Park Playhouse: Departing at 10:30 AM in a bus from the church parking lot. Traveling to a Winter Park restaurant TBD, then to see “Some Enchanted Evening, The Songs of Rodgers & Hammerstein” at 2 PM. The committee reviewed several interesting restaurants in the Winter Park area and decided to call to set up a group menu with limited choices at the Carmel Kitchen with a backup at the Brierpatch restaurant. J.B. will do the research.
    • Monday August 21 – Local outing to the Harry T Moore museum with dinner following at Goodrich’s in Oak Hill.
    • For September and October each member of the board is to research some options to bring to our next board meeting (see below).
    • Trip to Wycliffe in Orlando – Bob Bates briefed on the options available in this guided tour he could do for us some Wednesday in November. The trip would include “Entermission” devotions from 9 – 10 AM, a bus tour of the campus East of Orlando, a visit to the “Word Spring,” hands on Museum and a lunch in the café. We will open this up to the entire congregation; couples too.
  • J.B. led the closing prayer
  • The next Singles Advisor Board Meeting is scheduled to be held on Mon., August 14, 9:30 AM.

Singles Advisory Committee Minutes

Monday, June 12, 2017 Meeting

  • Opening prayer was given by J.B.
  • Attendance: J.B. & Del Thorndike were in attendance.
  • Review of minutes from 5.30.17 Meeting
  •
  • Discussion of future events:

    • Wednesday, June 14, 5:30 PM Blue Heron dinner for June with Trey Boyer as speaker. We have 21 people signed up.

    • Friday, July 28, 11:30 AM – Lunch in Orlando area and a Matinee at Winter Park Playhouse – “Some Enchanted Evening, The Songs of Rodgers & Hammerstein” July 28. 15 seats have been reserved.

    • August – Del opined The Green Turtle in Melbourne might be the best place for this outing as other groups had already done recent trips to Andres and Goodrich’s.

    • Trip to Wycliffe in Orlando – Bob Bates will arrange a guided tour he could do for us some Wednesday in November. The trip would include “Entermission” devotions from 9 – 10 AM, a bus tour of the campus East of Orlando, a visit to the “Word Spring,” hands on Museum and a lunch in the café and perhaps some “behind the scenes” areas not normally opened to the public. We will open this up to the entire congregation; couples too.

    • Shakespeare Theater is still a possibility

  • JB gave the closing prayer including prayers for Del’s eye surgery at noon.
  • The next Singles Advisor Board Meeting is scheduled to be held on Mon., July 10, 9:30 AM.

Singles Advisory Committee Minutes

Monday, May 30, 2017 Meeting

  • J.B. gave the opening prayer.
  • Roll Call: Attending were Del Thorndike, Elaine Stewart, J. B. Kump & Bill Reynolds.
  • The minutes from 5.1.17 meeting were reviewed without change.
  • Review of the Thursday, May 25, Hollerback German Restaurant in Sanford indicated that it was a wonderful event and everyone enjoyed themselves. The only, minor concern was how loud the restaurant was.
  •
  • Discussion of future events:

  • We are planning for a fixed-menu (choice of 3 entries) dinner at the Blue Heron in mid-June with Trey Boyer as speaker. Cost is under $20. The restaurant and speaker are both willing. [NOTE: following the meeting, the following arrangements were made – Reservation is for Wednesday, June 14 from 5:30 – 7 PM.

  • River Tubing – It was determined this is not a likely event for our group: distance & inability of many members to participate.

  • Winter Park Playhouse – “Some Enchanted Evening, The Songs of Rodgers & Hammerstein” July 29 – Aug. 20. It was determined we should make our reservations for 15 people early in the run for this production to preserve a block of seats. We can always add more, even if the seating may be separated from the initial block. We will research another restaurant for this trip.

  • For August, we will research a luncheon at one of the following (or another): Andre’s at the former Walkabout (Indian River Preserve), Cheddars in Orlando or Melbourne, The Green Turtle in Melbourne, or (preferred) Goodrich’s in Oak Hill with a possible visit to the Buddhist Temple or the Harry T Moore museum.

  • J.B. gave the Closing prayer
  • The next Singles Advisor Board Meeting is scheduled to be held on Mon., June 12, 9:30 AM.
